Stamp Commemorating March 7th Speech Released

On Friday, the Directorate of Posts released a commemorative postage stamp commemorating the recognition by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) of the historic 7 March speech by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as part of the World Documentary Heritage.

Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Mustafa Jabbar has inaugurated two stamps from his office worth Tk 10 each and Tk 30 souvenir sheet, reports UNB.

He also unveiled Tk 10 opening day covers and a data card worth Tk 5.

Initially, from Sunday, the postage stamp with souvenir sheet and opening day covers will be available at the Dhaka GPO Philatelic Bureau and will be made available progressively in all GPO's across the country.

On 30 October 2017, the Father of the Nation's historic speech on 7 March was included in the Memory of the International World Register, a list held by Unesco of the world's important documentary heritage.

The recognition of UNESCO has not only honoured Bangabandhu's historic March 7th speech, but also the entire country and nation. Commenting on the speech, UNESCO wrote: “The speech effectively declared the independence of Bangladesh."
