World Diabetes Day: 7.1m Diabetic in Country

World Diabetes Day is being observed in the country as elsewhere in the world today to make people conscious of a healthy lifestyle for better disease management.

The goal of this theme- Nurse and Diabetes- is to raise awareness about the important role nurses to play in helping people living with diabetes.

The International Diabetes Federation stated that the position of nurses and other health professional support workers is becoming increasingly important as the number of people with diabetes continues to increase worldwide.

Health care providers and policymakers must understand the value of investing in education and training, as nurses may make a difference to people affected by diabetes.

The International Diabetes Federation estimated that 7.1 million people with diabetes in Bangladesh and almost similar numbers with undetected diabetes.

This number is estimated to double by 2025, it said.

According to WHO the majority of diabetes patients in the world live in developed countries and, sadly, more than 80 percent of diabetes deaths occur in low and middle-income countries.

Therefore, the International Diabetes Federation believes that there is no alternative of developing awareness about diabetes.
