Ex-Deputy Speaker Shawkat Ali Passes Away

On Monday morning, former Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Colonel (Retd) Shawkat Ali passed away in a hospital in the capital. He was 83.

This morning, while receiving treatment, he took his last breath at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

He was put on life support earlier on November 5 as his health worsened.

Ali, who was tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19), had been undergoing treatment at the hospital since October 29.

Ali was one of the accused in the Agartala Conspiracy Case filed during the Ayub regime in Pakistan period.

Shawkat Ali, also a freedom fighter, elected MP six times from Shariatpur-2 constituency.
