U.S. President Donald Trump will take part in a virtual summit of 20 held by Saudi Arabia on Saturday, a senior U.S. official said.

Trump's inclusion in the two-day gathering of the world's wealthiest nations comes at the heels of his attendance at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit on Friday via video link, reports AFP.

Neither summit was held in person because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The summit comes with Trump already unable to recognize his loss to Democrat Joe Biden in the November 3 presidential election, while making false allegations of systemic fraud.

In the shadow of a raging pandemic, the summit, which is normally an occasion for one-on-one interaction amongst world leaders, is limited to short internet sessions on urgent global issues—from climate change to rising inequalities.

Discussions are expected to be dominated by the pandemic’s implications and steps for reviving the global economy.

Saudi Arabia is the first Arab nation to host a G20 summit.
