Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Sunday conducted a drive on Manik Mia Avenue in the capital to evict illegal establishments, floating shops and illegally parked vehicles from the newly built bicycle lane.

Masud Hossain, Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate of the Mohakhali Region (Region-3) of the DNCC led the drive to clear the bicycle lanes on both sides of Manik Mia Avenue from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the press release said.

Who is the new cycle lane on Manik Mia for?

Drivers of two cars were fined a total of 2,500 Tk for unlawful parking while parking. In addition, over 100 illegal shops have been evicted. A total of five people were fined Tk 600 for not wearing masks properly during the operation.

Separate cycle lanes have been a long-standing demand of bikers in the country. The country's first lane was inaugurated in Agargaon in October 2019. Manik Mia is the capital's second dedicated bike road. The lanes were marked green with white bike icons on both sides of the 0.99km road, starting from the intersection between Lalmatia Aarong and Khamarbari.
