Transport owner and workers in Pabna went on an indefinite strike on Thursday morning protesting the assault on one of their fellows, causing suffering to commuters.

Pabna district Bus Malik-Sramik Oikya Parishad called the strike with a 6-point demand that halted the movement of all kind of public transports including truck and CNG-run auto-rickshaws.

Oikya Parishad leader Habibur Rahman said the transport owners and workers of Sahajadpur in Rajshahi frequently physically assault the transport workers of Pabna over trivial matters when the buses of Pabna cross Shahjadpur highway to reach Dhaka.

"They had beat up two workers of Pabna Express on December 24, but the authorities concerned did not to take any action regarding the matter," he said.

Bus Malik-Sramik Oikya Parishad sought a permanent solution to the problem and gave a three-day ultimatum on December 27, but no measures were taken, he added.

The strike will continue until the demands are met, he said.
