4,969 Killed in 4,092 Road Accident in 2020: NSC

At least 4,969 people were killed and 5,085 others were injured in 4,092 road accidents in 2020.

Ilias Kanchan, founder and chairman of Nirapad Sarak Chai (NSC), unveiled the information at a press conference held at the National Press Club on Wednesday.

In addition, 129 people were killed and 31 others injured in rail accidents, while 212 were killed and 100 others were injured and missing in waterway accidents.

NSC has prepared a report, taking information from reports published in the country's different media.

The highest number of accidents occurred in the district of Dhaka. 367 people were killed in 237 road accidents in Dhaka, 193 killed in 161 accidents in Chattogram, 207 killed in 152 accidents in Mymensingh and 129 killed in 103 accidents in Gazipur.

Lack of proper management and monitoring on roads, and no implementation of 111 road safety related recommendations were the major reasons behind accidents, said Ilias Kanchan.
