Arson Cases: 178 BNP Men Get Anticipatory Bail

The High Court on Wednesday granted anticipatory bails to 178 leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in five cases filed over arson attacks on 11 buses in Dhaka on November 12, 2020.

Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan passed the order following 36 petitions filed by the BNP lawyers.

Lawyer Kaiser Kamal stood for the BNP leaders and activists in the court, while Deputy Attorney General Abul Hashem represented the state.

On 12 November, last year, eleven buses, including two vehicles used for carrying government staff, were set on fire. All the arson incidents took place between 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm on the day.

The police filed 16 cases against over 600 BNP men with nine police stations in the capital.
