Syed Abul Maksud Laid to Rest

Eminent columnist, researcher, writer and journalist Syed Abul Maksud was laid to eternal rest at the capital's Azimpur graveyard after the Maghrib prayers on Wednesday.

Earlier, his third and final namaj-e-janaza was held at Dhaka University Central Mosque after Asr prayers while his second namaj-e-janaza was held on the National Press Club premises around 2:45 pm.

A pall of gloom descended on the journalist community when the freezing van carrying his body entered the club around 2:15 pm.

His friends, colleagues, journalists and their professional organizations, including National Press Club, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU), Dhaka Sub Editors’ Council (DSEC), Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), and Bangladesh Press Institute, among others, paid their last tribute to him there.

Later Syed Abul Maksud’s body was taken to the Central Shaheed Minar where different professionals, social, political and cultural organizations and cross-section of people placed flowers and floral wreaths at his coffin.

Earlier, Syed Abul Maksud’s first namaj-e-janaza was held at Dhanmodi’s Masjid-Ut-Taqwa around 10:00 pm on Tuesday.

The noted researcher and a recipient of the Bangla Academy Literary Award breathed his last on Tuesday evening in the capital.
