The patients, hospitalised with Covid-19, are dying faster than ever before, said a situation report of the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR).

The report, published on 17 April, said 48% of people, who died between 28 January to 15 April, had lost their lives within 5 days of hospitalisation. 16% died within 5-10 days of admission.

The data collected within the same time frame showed that the hospitalisation rate was 44% and 52% of the dead were hospitalised within 5 days of showing symptoms.

However, compared to last year more women are dying from the disease. Exposure to the virus also might have increased mental problems across the country.

The Covid-19 situation in Bangladesh continued its upward trend as fatalities mounted to 10,283 till Saturday. The total number of infections now stands at 715,252 in the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
