COVID Cases Near 153 Million Globally

As countries grapple to curb the spread of coronavirus, the global Covid-19 caseload reached near 153 million as of Monday.

The total case count and fatalities stand at 152, 871, 267 and 3,202,699 respectively as of Monday , according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU) data.

The US, which is the world's worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has logged 32,421,598 cases and 577,045 deaths to date, as per the university data.

India has recorded 19,925,517 cases with the report of 368,147 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours till Monday.

Besides, 3,417 more deaths were recorded since Sunday morning, bringing the death toll to 218,959.

India is how second worst hit country in number of cases and third worst hit country in number of deaths.

Brazil reported 1,202 more deaths from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 407,639, the country's Ministry of Health said Sunday.

The ministry said that another 28,935 cases were reported in the same period, bringing the total caseload to 14,754,910.

Brazil is currently easing lockdown measures with a controlled reopening of shops and other economic activities after the hospital system was overwhelmed in February, March and April.

Situation in Bangladesh

The health authorities reported 69 more coronavirus-related deaths in 24 hours until Sunday morning, taking the death toll to 11,569, as Bangladesh grapples to tackle the second wave of the pandemic.

Besides, 1,359 new cases were detected after examining 14,158 samples, the lowest number of tests since April 18, according to government data.

With the new cases, the country’s total Covid-19 caseload now stands at 761,943, the DGHS handout said.

Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus cases on March 8, 2020 and the first death on March 18 that year.
