President, PM Greet Countrymen on Eid-ul-Azha

President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday greeted the countrymen and the Muslims across the world on the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Azha to be celebrated in Bangladesh on Wednesday.

In a message, the President said the spirit of sacrifice of Eid-ul-Azha is a unique example of showing respect and love to the almighty Allah.

Hazrat Ibrahim (AS), he said, has set an incomparable example of love, obedience and sacrifice to Allah by taking steps to sacrifice his beloved son Hazrat Ismail (AS) by the directive of Allah.

"Azha means Qurbani (sacrifice)," he said, adding that sacrifice instills the spirit of self-sacrifice into all and also teaches them the spirit of sharing happiness and sorrow with relatives and neighbors.

The President said this year the Eid-ul-Azha is being celebrated at a time when the world community is distraught witnessing a catastrophe arisen out of coronavirus pandemic as many people are in hardship at different parts of the world including Bangladesh.

"Due to coronavirus, the life and livelihood of the people of the country are facing a difficult challenge today," he said.

He urged the people of the country to stand by the people affected by the pandemic by realizing the meaning of sacrifice and being inspired by the spirit of restraint and sacrifice.

The President also called upon the citizens to sacrifice their animals in government designated places.

He hoped that everyone will try to prevent the environment pollution by removing the waste of sacrificial animals after Qurbani.

He advised all to observe Eid-ul-Azha with utmost caution by adhering to proper hygiene rules and maintaining social distancing.

The head of the state wished the Eid-ul-Azha will bring happiness and instill the ideology of sacrifice into all.

In another message, PM Hasina said the unique instance set by Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) by sacrificing his dearest thing for the satisfaction of Allah will be imitated and followed forever.

Through the festival, the capable Muslims establish the bonding of sympathy and equality among the mankind by distributing meat of their sacrificial animals among relatives and neighbours, she added.

"Eid-ul-Azha teaches us peace, sympathy, sacrifice and brotherhood. Let us establish a happy, prosperous and peaceful Bangladesh, free from discrimination, by participating in the welfare-oriented activities and realizing the essence of Eid-ul-Azha," the premier said.

She said this time the Eid-ul-Azha is being celebrated in a crisis period as coronavirus has made the entire world stagnant.

The prime minister said her government is taking required measures to tackle the situation and extend cooperation to the people.             

"Allah tests patience of human being in crisis. During this time, we will have to cooperate with each other having endless patience with tolerant and sympathetic mindsets," she said.

The premier extended her heartfelt thanks to health workers, physicians, nurses, police, administration, law enforcement agencies, armed forces, bankers and cleaners and others who are providing continuous services to people during this crisis period.       

Besides, she urged all to sacrifice their animals in designated places following health guidelines properly.

The prime minister also called upon all to celebrate the festival staying at respective homes to check the spread of the deadly virus and offer special prayers to the almighty for freeing the mankind from the pandemic.  

She greeted the countrymen and the Muslims in the world on the occasion and hoped that like every year, the Eid will bring happiness and joy to all.

Sheikh Hasina prayed to Allah for continued peace, progress and prosperity of the country and Muslim Ummah on the holy day.
