At least 20 passengers were injured as a ferry hit a pillar of Padma Bridge on Shimulia-Banglabazar route on Friday morning.

The accident occurred around 9:45 am when the driver of Ro Ro ferry Shah Jalal lost control over the vessel, reports media.

The ferry that was heading towards Shimulia ghat in Munshiganj from Banglabazar in Madaripur, hit pillar number 17.

Driver Abdur Rahman of the ferry said he lost control over the vessel as its electronic system failed.

The ferry hit the pillar due to the strong current in the Padma River, he added.
