A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted bail to a businesswoman turned politician Helena Jahangir, in a case filed under the Telecommunication Act.

After hearing Helena's counsel's bail petition in the case filed with Pallabi police station, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufiyan Mohammed Noman issued the order.

Helena Jahangir was arrested on August 3 during a raid at her Gulshan home in the capital.

RAB seized a large amount of wine, poker equipment, walkie-talkies, foreign cash, and knives from Helena's home during the operation.

She has been charged with unlawful IPTV, distributing false information, extortion, and other offenses.

She's also accused of violating the Digital Security Act, the Narcotics Control Act, the Wildlife Protection Act, and the Special Powers Act.

On July 25, Helena lost membership of the Awami League subcommittee on women affairs for her involvement with Bangladesh Awami Chakrijibi League, an organization with no affiliation with the ruling party.

She was also removed from the advisor post of the Comilla district unit Awami League.
