As tensions rose following the attack on Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Munibur Rahman and ruling party men clashed with law enforcement, the government deployed 10 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel in Barishal city.

Law enforcers so far arrested at least 13 people in connection with the two cases filed over the attack. Earlier, Md. Munibur Rahman and police filed two separate cases with Kotwali Model police station on Thursday noon (August 19).

In the two instances, Kotwali police Officer-in-Charge Nurul Islam claimed 30-40 people were named and 100 people were unnamed. In these cases, 13 leaders and activists were arrested.

The 10 battalion BGB members will be led by 10 executive magistrates, according to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jasim Uddin Haider.

Around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, the United Nations' official residence on the Sadar Upazila Complex premises was attacked over the removal of posters and banners. During the incident, the OC of the Kotwali Model police station was shot.
