Shahidul Zahir is a Bangladeshi renowned novelist who invents a new genre in Bengali literary fiction. His 68th birth anniversary will be observed on September 11.

Shahidul Zahir passed away on March 23, 2008. But his creation remains. His novels Abu Inbrahimer Mrityu (Abu Ibrahim's Death) (2009), Jibon o Rajnoitik Bastobota (Life and Political Reality) (1988), Se Raate Purnima Chilo (That Night Was Full Moon) (1995) and Mukher Dike Dekhi (Seeing the Face) (2006) add another dimension to Bengali literature. Shahidul Zahir's style is also unique in short stories. His notable collections of stories are Parapar (Passage) (1985), Dumurkheko Manush O Onnanyo Golpo (Fig-eater and Other Stories) (2000), and Dolu Nadir Hawa O Onnyanno Golpo (Dolu River’s Breeze and Other Stories) (2004).

He received the Alaol Literary Award and the Kagaj Literary Award in 2004 for his contribution to literature during his lifetime. Many films, television and plays have been adopted from his stories and novels.

In 2010, Shahidul Zahir's novel ‘Abu Inbrahimer Mrityu (Abu Ibrahim's Death) (2009)' was awarded the Prothom Alo Book of the Year-1415 Award.
