Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said that giving GSP+ benefits to Bangladesh depends on the political decision of the European Union (EU).

He said the EU has questions about Bangladesh's labor rights, factory safety, child labor and good governance in providing these benefits.

The Commerce Minister made the remarks in response to a question from M Abdul Latif of Awami League in Chittagong-11 constituency in response to a question from the Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday (September 16). Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the question and answer session.

On GSP+ benefits, Tipu Munshi said the government is working to get GSP Plus benefits from the European Union. At present, Bangladesh as an LDC is getting duty free-quota free market facility from the European Union. If Bangladesh finally transitions from a least developed country in 2026, it is expected to get three years of transition time under the current GSP law.

He also said that close communication is being maintained in the EU to continue Bangladesh's duty free market facility after 2029.
