Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority (CAAB) has recovered 80 gold bars from Hazrat Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram.

A security guard named Belal Uddin (40) has been arrested on charges of being involved in illegal gold smuggling.

The consignment arrived on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines BG-148 flight from Dubai on Saturday (October 9) morning.

AKM Sultan Mahmud, the deputy commissioner of the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (CIID), said the man, identified as Belal Uddin, was being searched for suspicious behavior. At that time, 80 gold bars were found in a polythene bag in his hand.

The weight of 80 pieces of gold bar is 9 kg 280 grams. Its market value is about 5 crore 35 lakh taka, he said.
