Bangladesh defeated the Maldives in their second match of the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Tournament in Colombo today thanks to goals from Jamal Bhuiyan and Tapu Barman. This is Bangladesh's first win against the Maldives since 2003.

Bangladesh ended their 18-year winless streak against the Maldives with a 2-1 win.

Jamal Bhuiyan put the team ahead in the 12th minute of the match. In the 33rd minute, Mohamed Umair equalized for the Maldives. In the end, Tapu Barman stepped up to score the winning goal from a penalty kick in the 87th minute after substitute Jewel Rana was brought down inside the box by Maldives goalkeeper Ali Naajih.

Bangladesh who started the event with a 1-1 draw against Seychelles three days ago, are on top of the table with four points.
