Road
Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that a logical decision
will be taken soon regarding half fare for students in public transport.
"We are
thinking of introducing half fare for students on BRTC buses," he said. "I
would like to seek the cooperation of the concerned people regarding the
introduction of half fare for students not only in government buses but also in
private buses."
He was
speaking at the bi-annual general meeting and council session of the Bangladesh
Road Transport Owners Association at the seminar hall of the Engineering
Institute in the capital on Thursday (November 25). The bridge minister
attended the meeting at noon.
Speaking as
the chief guest, he demanded a half fare for the students and said that a
logical decision would be taken in this regard. A meeting will be held today at
the head office of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA). It will be
attended by senior government officials. Hopefully, a logical decision will
come from the meeting.
"Besides,
I hope the concerned BRTA officials will sit down with the bus owners tomorrow
and take a logical decision in this regard," he said.
Representatives
of 130 units of the organization took part in it. The meeting was attended by
all the officers of the Executive Council of Bangladesh Road Transport Owners
Association and the councilors including the presidents and general secretaries
of all the districts, branches / units across the country.
The meeting
is being chaired by the president of the organization Moshiur Rahman Ranga.
