Earthquake Jolts Bangladesh

A moderate earthquake of 5.8 magnitude jolted Bangladesh in the early hours of Friday, reports media.

No casualties or damage to properties have been reported immediately.

The earthquake that was felt in the capital Dhaka and other major cities, hit at 5:45 am, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said in a bulletin.

The epicentre of the quake was in India-Myanmar border, 347km east-southeast of the BMD Seismic Centre, it said.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) put the quake's strength at magnitude 6.1 with a depth of 32.8km.

The epicentre was 19km north-northwest of Hakha, the capital of Chin State in Myanmar, the USGS added.
