From
next Saturday (January 15) buses will run on the road in compliance with the
health rules. In this case, the fares will not be increased. Bus owners will
transport passengers at existing fares.
Nur
Mohammad Majumder, chairman of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA),
shared the information with the media after a meeting with stakeholders on Wednesday
(January 12th) at noon.
Earlier,
a meeting was held at the BRTA office in Banani around 2.30 pm with the bus
owners to implement the government's directive to increase the spread of
corona.
Bangladesh
Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chairman Nur Mohammad Majumder presided over
the meeting. Sarwar Alam, President of Bangladesh Road Transport Owners
Association Moshiur Rahman Ranga, Secretary-General Khandaker Enayet Ullah,
General Secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation Osman Ali, and
other bus owners and stakeholders of different levels of government were
present at the meeting.
The
BRTA says passengers on public transport, drivers, supervisors,
helper-cum-cleaners, and those in charge of ticket sales outlets should be
required to wear masks. At the same time, they need to provide necessary hand
sanitizers and arrange for passengers to be transported on public transport while
maintaining social distance.
Moreover,
at the beginning and end of the journey, the motor vehicle should be cleaned
and disinfected with disinfectant. Motor vehicle owners also need to disinfect
passengers by spraying handbags and luggage.
