In order to curb the recent coronavirus infections, all types of social gatherings including marriage ceremonies must be stopped. Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque made the remarks in the wake of a rise in Covid infections in Bangladesh.

He said that various public gatherings and social events including weddings must be stopped for the time being. We have raised these issues with the Deputy Commissioners. They have been told to keep a close eye on these.

He made the remarks at a briefing after a meeting of the Ministry of Health and Foreign Affairs at the Deputy Commissioner (DC) conference here at noon on Thursday (January 20).

The health minister said regular screenings are being conducted at landports, seaports and airports.

He also said that when a person gets on a bus-train-steamer, he/she has to follow the hygiene rules. Masks should be worn, social distance should be maintained as much as possible. I have asked to take legal action against those who do not follow the hygiene rules.
