The installation of the viaduct from the Uttara to Motijheel section of the Dhaka metro rail project has been completed.

The completion came through connecting Piers No 582 and 583 in front of the National Press Club on Thursday.

The overall progress of the project stands at 74%, M.A.N Siddique, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd, told a virtual media call.

Mentioning that the pandemic poses a challenge to the project work, he said a proposal has been made to increase the spending in the project by Tk 8,000 crore.

“Land acquisition is underway from Motijheel to Kamalapur. Spending has shot up due to the cost increase in land acquisition,” he said.

High-definition CCTV cameras with face detection technology will be installed in the project area, he said, adding that arrangements will be made for people with special needs.

The Dhaka metro rail is expected to carry 60,000 passengers per hour by travelling a 21.26km route from Uttara to Motijheel-Kamalapur Railway Station in less than 40 minutes.
