Education Minister Dipu Moni has said the issue of sharing Teesta waters should be solved mutually between Bangladesh and India.

She said this while attending a programme at the Kolkata International Book Fair on Friday, reports The Times of India.

Bangladesh Deputy High Commission and NGO Bangla Worldwide hosted the programme jointly.

Mentioning that the friendship between the two neighbouring countries was time-tested, the minister recalled the support provided by India during the Liberation War.

She said when a river passes through a settlement, its water is in demand and all people have the right to it. “I think the issue can be solved completely.”

Dipu Moni, a former foreign minister of Bangladesh, said she had tried her best to ink the Teesta water sharing pact.

It was supposed to be signed in September 2011 during her tenure, but didn’t materialise even after a decade.

West Bengal is yet to give its consent on sharing of the river water.
