A public hearing on the proposed
gas tariff hike at the retail level began on Monday (March 21).
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory
Commission (BERC) is holding the hearing at the BIAM Auditorium in the city on
March 21-24 to listen to the arguments from the stakeholders in the gas sector.
Distribution companies have
submitted their final proposals to the energy regulator seeking a 117 per cent
hike in gas price at the retail level for industries while 116 percent for
domestic use.
Today (Monday) was the very first
day of the four-day public hearing. Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Petroleum
Corporation (Petrobangla) has raised their proposals from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
today. Petrobangla’s rationale for price increase was highlighted.
The commission will then submit
their assessment report. Those who have already enrolled at the end of the
commission’s evaluation report took part in the discussion. Gas Transmission
Company Limited (GTCL) was scheduled to raise their proposals from 2:00pm to
5:00pm.
