Renowned actress and lawmaker Suborna Mustafa has expressed outrage in the parliament today over the reported harassment of a woman by a policeman – for wearing a bindi.

"Where in the constitution, which law of Bangladesh says that a woman cannot wear a bindi?" -Suborna questioned while placing a statement in the parliament.

She also demanded action against the accused policeman.

A teacher of Tejgaon College has complained that a policeman harassed and hurled abusive words at her after seeing a bindi on her forehead while she was going to the campus yesterday morning.

When she protested, he threatened her and tried to run her over with his motorbike, she alleged.

In a written complaint filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, Dr. Lata Samaddar, a lecturer in the college's theatre and media studies department, said the incident took place in front of Shezan Point shopping mall around 8:30am.
