Harassment for Wearing Bindi: Police Constable Identified

A police constable was identified over the incident of harassment of a Tejgaon College teacher for wearing a Bindi on her forehead.

Confirming it, DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam told the media today that departmental action will be taken against him.

The constable was identified as Nazmul Tareque, police sources said.

Asked whether the constable will be arrested, the DMP commissioner said there is no plan to arrest him yet as he is not an accused in any case.

The teacher complained that a policeman harassed and hurled abuse at her after seeing a Bindi on her forehead while she was going to the campus on Saturday.

When she protested, he threatened her and tried to run her over with his motorbike, she alleged.
