Two prisoners of Chattogram Central Jail died at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) early today after they fell ill.

The deceased are Md Rafiq (58) and Babul Mia (38), both from Chandanish upazila, said Dewan Md Tariqul Islam, Jailor of Chattogram Central Jail.

Rafiq was sent to jail on March 27, in a case filed over a clash, while Babul on November 18 last year in connection with a drug case filed with Chandanish Police Station, he said.

Rafiq and Babul were taken to prison hospital after they fell sick and complained of chest pain respectively in two separate cells – between 4:00 am and 5:00 am.

They were later taken to CMCH separately where doctors declared them dead, the jailor said.

Both the bodies were sent to hospital morgue for autopsy.
