‘Asani’ Weakens, Moving Towards India’s Eastern Coast

Severe cyclonic storm Asani has lost its strength and is moving towards India’s eastern coast.

It was centered on Tuesday night about 1300 kms south-southwest of Chattogram port, 1270 kms south-southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 1135 kms south-southwest of Mongla port and 1160 kms south-southwest of Payra port, said a Met office bulletin.

It is likely move in a northwesterly direction, it said.

“It is likely to move in a northwesterly direction and weaken into a cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours,” said the bulletin.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist distant warning signal No 2.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers with lightning flashes and temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at most places over Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at many places over Rangpur division with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions,” it added.
