The Ministry of Education has directed the authorities of North South University (NSU) to sell its 10 luxury vehicles and use the money in the fields of education and research, reports media.

It also asked NSU to send the vehicle-sold money to the university’s common funds.

Issued on Tuesday, a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of NSU said the university procured such vehicles at Tk 26.95 crore which was supposed to be spent for development of education and research.

Quoting Section 44(1) of the Private University Act, 2010, the letter further reminded that every private university should have a general fund and, as per section 44 (7), the fund should be used for necessary purposes.

NSU bought 12 vehicles including the said 10 during a period from January 2019 to January 2022, the letter added.

The ministry issued such directive at a time when NSU Board of Trustee members are booked by the Anti-Corruption Commission for embezzling huge funds. Various people and organisations are demanding immediate arrest of the accused persons of the NSU.
