In a separate operation in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 119 grams of crystal meth ice and 118 bottles of foreign liquor worth Tk 10 crore.

The drugs were seized in a sting operation on Monday (May 23) morning.

Confirming the matter, Teknaf Battalion 2 BGB Commander Lieutenant Colonel Sheikh Khalid Mohammad Iftekhar said that a large consignment of drugs was being smuggled from Myanmar to Bangladesh through Kamal Jora area about 600 yards southeast of BRM-10 of Hnila Damdamiya BOP in Teknaf Upazila. Two anti-smuggling patrols from BGB Battalion Sadar and Damdamiya BOP quickly moved to the area.

He said the BGB patrol team chased them after realizing the sound of people's feet at around 3.30 pm. At that time, the two smugglers, sensing the presence of BGB, hid something in the depths of Keora garden and fled. The BGB chased them but failed to arrest them.

He added that the patrol team later searched the Keora garden and found black polythene bags. One kg 56 grams of crystal meth worth Tk 5.28 crore was found wrapped in a bag.

Meanwhile, in the morning of the same day, the members of BOP of Shah Pori Island recovered one kg 63 grams of crystal meth (ice) and 118 bottles of Myanmar liquor worth Tk 5 crore 33 lakh 27 thousand from Naf river. The recovered drugs have been deposited at the battalion headquarters.

The BGB official said the battalion's intelligence activities were underway to identify the smugglers. In addition, the BGB has been following the Zero Tolerance Policy in border security, smuggling, narcotics, illegal entry and suppression of international border crime with proper and effective professionalism.
