First Hajj Flight Leaves Dhaka with 410 Passengers

The first Hajj flight of 410 passengers left Dhaka this year after being closed for two years due to the coronavirus epidemic. Today, Sunday (June 5) at around 9 am, the flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The flight is scheduled to arrive in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia at 12:45 pm local time.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Hajj program on Friday (June 3).

The holy Hajj will be held on July 8 (9th Zilhaj) subject to the sighting of the moon. Due to Coronavirus, no one from Bangladesh has been able to take part in Hajj for the last two years. This time 1 million devotees from all over the world are getting the opportunity to participate in Hajj.

This time 56,585 people from Bangladesh will go to Saudi Arabia for Hajj. Of this, 50 percent of passengers Biman Bangladesh Airlines will transport 28,793 pilgrims. However, there are plans to transport 29,000 pilgrims, including government representatives.

Besides, the Saudi government is not giving the opportunity to those over 65 to participate in Hajj this year.

According to Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the 'Road to Mecca' initiative has made Hajj management more beautiful, easy, and technology-dependent. Dedicated air service is being provided for the pilgrims. All the immigration formalities of Hajj pilgrims are being completed from Dhaka.

The airline said it would operate 65 dedicated flights before the Hajj. Of these, 51 flights will be operated on the Jeddah route and 14 on the Medina route. Of which 9 flights will be operated on the Chattogram-Jeddah route, two on the Chattogram-Medina route, and two on the Sylhet-Jeddah route. Besides, 65 dedicated flights will be operated after Hajj. 51 from Jeddah and 14 from Medina.
