Jurain resident and activist Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, who came under the spotlight following a unique protest against murky Wasa water, was picked up allegedly by law enforcers this morning.

"A group of people – some in police uniform – picked him up from near Bikrampur Plaza in Jurain around 11:00 am. He called me and informed over the phone," Mizanur's wife Shamim Hasem Khuki said to the media.

"We called his number several times later on but he wasn't responding," she added.

Mofizul Alam, officer-in-charge of Syampur Police Station, said they did not pick up Miazanur but they came to know that detectives held him for interrogation.

Asked whether Mizanur was accused in any cases, the OC said "he is a suspected instigator in the mob beating of a traffic sergeant in Jurain on Tuesday… Senior officials are going over the information."

Contacted, a DB official said many people went into hiding, switching off their mobile phones, after the attack on the policemen in Jurain as law enforcers are looking for them.

"We did not pick up anyone named Mizanur Rahman," he said preferring anonymity.
