India Returnee Admitted to Hospital on Monkeypox Suspicion

A Bangladesh national who returned from India has been admitted to hospital on suspicion of being infected with monkeypox.

The person was known as Abbas Ali, 42, son of Ibrahim of Shalikha upazila in Magura.

He returned home through Benapole port on Friday (June 10) morning. Later, he was admitted to Jashore 250-bed General Hospital. Earlier, Abbas went to Kolkata of India on June 3.

According to Benapole Immigration sources, Abbas Ali was found with ‘pox’ after he returned home. Duty doctor immediately sent him to the hospital as he believed that it might be monkeypox.

Supervisor of Jashore General Hospital Dr Akteruzzaman said, “The exact disease of Abbas Ali will be confirmed after further tests to be conducted on Saturday (June 11).”
