Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said BNP is doing politics of falsehood over the sufferings of flood affected people, reports BSS.

"BNP's evil political behavior is very sorrowful and inhumane at a time when the people are fighting for survival in the wake of natural disaster," he said in a statement issued to mass media.

Condemning purpose-oriented ill-motivated comments of BNP leaders, Quader said the people didn't witness any efforts or initiatives of BNP to mitigate sufferings during any disaster.

"BNP leaders only do politics of falsehood over people's distress and sufferings through their lip-service," he mentioned.

At Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's directives, Bangladesh Army, Navy, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Coast Guard and local administrations are making all-out combined efforts to lessen people's sufferings and protect their properties in the greater Sylhet region in the wake of devastating flood, he said.

Around 600 shelter centers have been opened for flood affected people in Sylhet and Sunamganj districts and a large number of people also took refuge there, he said.

Bangladesh Army opened toll-free emergency number for providing any kind of support to flood affected people, he said.

The minister said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) opened emergency control room for providing urgent medical services to flood-hit people, he said, adding that monitoring team and medical board have also been formed for keeping constant surveillance on flood situation.

Apart from the government's rescue operations and relief programme, Awami League leaders and workers continue its rescue and relief programme as dry food, water purifying tablets, necessary medicines and oral saline as well as cooked foods are also being distrusted among flood victims by leaders and workers of AL and its associate bodies.

Quader said the premier has already instructed the authorities to make cuts in the roads if necessary to ensure quick removal of floodwaters from the flood-hit region.

He called upon all to stay beside flood victims during this disastrous period.
