35 New Dengue Patients Hospitalised in 24Hrs

A total of 35 new dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka while one patient was admitted outside the capital within 24 hours till 8:00 am Friday, reports BSS. 

"Two dengue patients died on July 19 while the first death from dengue was reported on June 21, this year. The total death toll from dengue rose to five," a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said. 

With the new cases, the total number of dengue patients this year rose to 2,014 while some 1,733 patients were released from the hospitals.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne illness that occurs in tropical and subtropical areas of the world. The outbreak of the disease is usually seasonal, peaking during and after rainy seasons.

The World Health Organization (WHO) classifies dengue as one of the top 10 threats to public health.
