National Moon Sighting Committee today officially confirmed that the moon of the month of Muharram of 1444 Hijri was not spotted anywhere in Bangladesh.

So, the month of Muharram will start on Sunday, July 31, 2022 while the 30th day of Zil Hajj month will be tomorrow (Saturday), said a press release.

Therefore, the holy Ashura will be celebrated on August 9.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at the Islamic Foundation (IF) conference room in Baitul Mukarram National Mosque this evening.

Additional Religious Affairs Secretary Md. A. Awal Hawlader chaired the meeting.
