Bangladesh’s ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, earlier, signed an agreement with Betwinner News, the company of betting site Betwinner. However, despite the pressure from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to sever ties with the betting agency, his Facebook post as a goodwill ambassador of the organization was there. Now, Shakib Al Hasan removed that Facebook post from his official page when he returned home on Friday night.

Shakib Al Hasan shared this status on his Facebook page on August 2. Since then, discussions and storms of criticism began. BCB wrote to him to back out of that contract.

Then on Thursday, board president Nazmul Hasan Papon said BCB has no doubt that Betwinner News is a “surrogate” of the betting company. And if Shakib Al Hasan does not break the ties with Betwinner, then “he will not have any connection with the country’s cricket”.

Shakib decided to withdraw from the contract that evening. He also promised to delete that post from his Facebook. However, the post was seen on Shakib’s Facebook page for the last 24 hours, resulting in him having to face criticism for this.

After this incident, Shakib returned to Dhaka on Friday at midnight. After that, the post was deleted from his Facebook.

He is scheduled to sit in a meeting with BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon at noon today. Earlier, this post was deleted by the Test captain of Bangladesh.

The cancellation of Betwinner’s contract leaves him keeping in the Asia Cup squad, for the time being, leaving the selectors with no problem. However, whether Shakib will get the captaincy or not, the decision will come after the meeting with the board chief.
