Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said that if all political parties agree, all the votes will be cast with the ballot paper.

He said this while talking to reporters at the Election Commission building on Wednesday (September 7).

The CEC said there is no scope for hacking or vote rigging in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The Election Commission has already given a clear idea about this. However, if all the political parties agree not to vote in EVMs, then the vote will be cast with the ballot paper.

He also said that the 39 citizens who have spoken about not voting in EVMs. They should come and present the issue of EVM error to the Election Commission. If an acceptable explanation is found, their statement will be taken into consideration.

It should be noted that in a statement sent to the media on Tuesday (September 6), 39 prominent citizens of the country urged the Election Commission not to use Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the upcoming national elections.

The statement said that without political consensus, the Election Commission has decided to use EVMs for voting in maximum 150 constituencies in the upcoming national elections. We think this decision of the commission is unreasonable. This will further fuel the political debate and make the Commission's current crisis of confidence more pronounced. We will suffer another failed election. Which will lead us to extreme crisis as a nation.
