30
percent of Americans believe that the United States will be overthrown within
the next 10 years. Such information has emerged from a survey published yesterday,
Wednesday (September 14).
The
report of that survey also said that at some point in the next decade, a
country can defeat the United States. An organization called 'U Gov' has conducted
this survey.
The
survey revealed a picture of public pessimism about the future of the United
States. Americans who participated in the survey were asked about 15 worst-case
scenarios in the next 10 years. Thirty-one percent of respondents said the U.S.
would be attacked by a foreign country that could create a situation in the
U.S. similar to Russia in Ukraine. 12 percent of Americans say such fears are
very strong.
It
should be noted that since the Second World War, the United States has continued
its leadership in terms of military power.
According
to the Stockholm Peace Research Institute, US defense spending in 2021 was $801
billion. This is almost three times that of China. China spent $293 billion.
However, China is rapidly rising to become a potential rival in Asia.
On
the other hand, despite the collapse of the post-Cold War Soviet Union,
Russia's activities in Europe continue to disrupt security. This situation has
caused deep concern among policy-makers in Washington. However, the survey
participants commented that it has decreased to some extent among the common
people.
Most
of the participants in this survey said that the fear of losing the status of
the superpower of the United States is increasing gradually. The role of
leadership, especially across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, may be greatly
weakened over the next 10 years. In other words, 20 percent of Americans said
that others could not listen to the words of the United States.
According
to the survey, there is also strong pessimism about US domestic prospects. 47
percent of citizens said the economy could collapse. 27 percent believe that
the Washington administration will not be able to overcome the economic
recession. And 20 percent felt that the recession may be difficult to overcome.
25
percent of Americans say current tensions between Republicans and Democrats
could plunge the US into civil war. 37 percent think that the danger of civil
war cannot be ruled out. 31 percent of Americans believe the United States is
moving toward becoming a "fascist dictatorship." On the other hand,
31 percent think the United States is heading toward a communist dictatorship.
