2 Go Missing in River Chhoto Jamuna during Kali Idol Immersion

Two people went missing Wednesday in the River Chhoto Jamuna of Joypurhat during the immersion of an idol of Goddess Kali from last year, police said.

They were identified as Shanjit Kumar, 23, and Tonmoy, 16, from the Rail Station Road area of Joypurhat town.

Shanjit was a student at the Open University. Tonmoy was a student of Kashiabari High School in the town.

The accident occurred in the Chak Shyam Ghat area in the river, Md Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station, said.

On information, divers from the fire service and civil defence rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation but no trace of the students could be found till the filing of this report._UNB
