The Coast Guard (BCG) evacuated 110 people from Char Patila, an isolated island of Bhola on Monday.

In two operations, BCG members rescued them from the island they were stranded on in the midst of adverse weather conditions accompanying Cyclone Sitrang, reports UNB.

Lieutenant Commander Khandaker Munif Taki, media officer of the Coast Guard, confirmed the development this evening.

In order to deal with the impending Cyclone Sitrang and to mitigate its damage, the rescue team of BCG Outpost Charmanika under Bangladesh Coast Guard South Zone rescued the stranded people in two phases and shifted them to a shelter centre, he added.

All of them were taken to the South Aicha Public Health Complex centre.

Coast Guard rescue teams are also ready to deal with any post-disaster situation, said Lietenend Kazi Al Amin, media officer of BCG East Zone.

Cyclone Sitrang is likely to intensify further, as it moves in a north-northeasterly direction and cross the BarishalChattogram coast near Khepupara by midnight Monday or early morning Tuesday, said the latest Met Office forecast.
