Himu Murder: HC Upholds Death Penalty for 3

The High Court has upheld the death sentences of three persons convicted in the 2012 murder of Chattogram student Himadri Majumder Himu.

The bench of Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty delivered the verdict on Thursday after hearing the death references and appeals from the defendants. Along with that, the High Court acquitted the other two people.

Earlier, on August 16 in 2016, a Chittagong court sentenced five persons to death in the sensational case. The convicts are, Tipu, Saju, Shaon, Danny and Riad.

According to the case statement, Himu was brutally beaten, dogs were unleashed upon him, and then he has pushed off a four-story building in the Panchlaish residential area of the port city on April 27, 2012.

Himu was first admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Later taken to Surgiscope Hospital. When his condition worsened, he was brought to Square Hospital in Dhaka and admitted. Himu died there after 26 days. In the case of Himu's murder, his uncle Prakash Das Asit filed a murder case accusing five people as the plaintiff.

Panchlaish Thana Police filed a charge sheet in the court on September 30, 2012, accusing the five accused. On October 18 of the same year, the court issued an arrest warrant against the absconding accused. A charge sheet was framed against the accused on February 3, 2014.
