4-Member Body Formed to Probe Escape of 2 Death-Row Convicts

A four-member committee has been formed to investigate the escape of two death-row convicts from a Dhaka court premises on Sunday.

The additional secretary (prisons) of the Security Service Division of the Home Ministry will lead the committee as convener, which has been asked to submit its report within seven working days.

An officer from Police Headquarters (PHQ), not lower than the rank of deputy inspector general, additional inspector general of prisons, and additional district magistrate will act as members of the committee.

Earlier, two separate committees were formed by PHQ and Dhaka Metropolitan Police to investigate the incident.

On Sunday, two activists of the banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam -- Moinul Hasan Shamim alias Samir alias Imran, and Abu Siddiq Sohel - were snatched away from police by unidentified persons from the court premises.

The Homer Ministry has already suspended five police personnel following the incident.
