A Rohingya leader (Majhi) named Mohammad Hossain (40) was shot dead by miscreants at Balukhali Rohingya camp in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar.

The incident took place at Balukhali Camp 18 East around 11 am today, Monday (December 26).

ASP Faruk Ahmed, Assistant Director (Media) of the 8 Armed Police Battalion confirmed the matter.

Mohammad Hossain is the son of Mohammad Shafiq of Block-8 of Camp 18. He was in charge as the head majhi (leader) of that camp.

Nur Hashem, the younger brother of the deceased, said that Mohammad Hossain was sitting next to the house in the morning. Suddenly the miscreants opened fire and he was shot dead. Later, when he was taken to the hospital, the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Assistant Director (Media) ASP Faruk Ahmed said, after receiving the information, the situation was brought under control. Police are working to catch the killers. The body has been sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue.
