Fire Injures Three On Board Lighter Vessel in Patenga Sea Beach

Three sailors sustained burn injuries when a fire broke out following a blast on board a lighter vessel in the sea off Patenga beach late Friday night, reports UNB.

Firefighter Md Nahid Hossain of Karnaphuli EPZ Fire Station, said the fire was caused by an explosion that occurred at lighter vessel ‘Muhuri-2’ around 11:20 pm Friday while it was still in the mid sea.

On information, two firefighting units rushed to the spot and put the fire under control around 2:30 am Saturday with the help of rescue ship ‘Kandari-8’.

The injured were taken to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital.

The vessel was heavily damaged by the fire.

What caused the explosion could not be known immediately. Details were also unavailable.
