The Dhaka-17 by-polls are proceeding without any major incidents, according to Abed Ali, the chairman of the Election Monitoring Forum.

“We visited as election observers on behalf of Saarc Human Rights Foundation and Election Monitoring Forum. The polling is taking place peacefully, I have not received any complaints,” he said.

On Monday, he made the remarks at the Banani Bidyaniketan School and College facility in the city.

Abed Ali also claimed to have spoken with the campaign representatives of several candidates. "I have not received any complaints from them. No one is intimidating the voting agents anywhere.”

But he added that the group anticipated a higher voter turnout.

On Monday at 8 am, voting for the Dhaka-17 by-election started. The voting will go on until 4 o'clock.

The Dhaka-17 seat, which includes the Dhaka cantonment region and wards 15, 18, 19, and 20 of Dhaka North City Corporation, has 125 voting places and 325,205 registered voters.
