CEC, Fb Delegation to Hold Meeting to Prevent Propaganda Thursday

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal will speak with a Facebook delegation on Thursday, August 3, 2023, to discuss battling false information on social media.

A meeting will be held at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, Dhaka, tomorrow at 11 a.m.

Ashok Kumar Debnath, Additional Secretary of the Election Commission (EC), stated that the Facebook team asked time for the meeting when they were contacted.

Asked about the reason behind the meeting, he said, “The national election is approaching. With that in mind, there can be a discussion on how to prevent propaganda on social media.”

The CEC will meet with three representatives of Facebook's Singapore branch. According to the EC source, Ruzan Sarwar, head of public policy for Bangladesh at Facebook's parent company Meta, would serve as the delegation's leader.
