The BNP will conduct a protest march in the nation's capital on Friday in response to the party's acting head Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman being found guilty of corruption.

The program was unveiled by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday during a news conference held at the party's NayaPaltan headquarters.

Around 2pm, a demonstration will be organized in front of the BNP's Nayapaltan central office by the party's Dhaka south, north, and district sections.

The interim BNP chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman, according to the BNP leader, were the subject of a "dictated" court decision that was intended to cast doubt on his leadership and scuttle the growing movement.

In a fraud case brought by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in 2007, a Dhaka court sentenced acting BNP leader Tarique Rahman to nine years in jail and his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman to three years on Wednesday (July 2).

The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court judge Md Asaduzzaman rendered the decision against Tarique and Zubaida, who had long resided in London.

Tarique and Zubaida both received fines of 3 crore and 35 lakh Tk from the court.
